First step towards a professional career Education scenario in India at present, is in a state of transition. Earlier, Government took the main responsibility of higher education. There were some known Universities and Engineering Colleges providing fixed pattern of courses & degrees. Sudden spurt in the demand of IT professionals in the last decade, exposed the limitations of Government-run institutions. These institutions were not able to change rapidly with the changing requirements of the industry. Private institutions started emerging to develop manpower for the need of the IT industry. During the last few years, the slow down in IT industries in U.S. again exposed the limitations of technicians being produced by private institutes to work in specific skill jobs. Universities have started offfering degrees through distance education, where the students are most of the time, missing out the opportunity to interact with regular teachers and also lack practical exposure. A combination of course syllabus on University pattern and practical skills and practice in latest technologies is the best bet. Career building is a long drawn & strenuous process. It starts with the student selecting the right stream, the right course & the right institute. During the study at the institute, the student requires to enhance his/her skills of problem solving, reading, learning, verbal and written communication and expression. All these qualities have to be used effectively to acquire technical knowledge, consisting of concepts, skills and ability to apply these in real life applications.
